Gates & Jobs: BFF (Again)

Steve and Bill 2

UPDATE:  Gizmodo has just posted every video available of the famed interview above that took place yesterday.  Check them out here.

It’s late and I can’t keep my eyes open long enough to say nearly the amount of things I’d like to say about this, but it’s extremely newsworthy and has been getting unbelievable amounts of hype in the Tech sector.

I’d say that Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sitting down together publicly for the first time in 20 years and conducting a joint interview is pretty worthy of the hype. After all, these two are two of the seminal figures of the Information Age. Others have made significant advances in terms of sheer science or ingenuity, but few have translated those advances into such drastically tangible technological milestones for the entire population of the world to experience first-hand.

These two are really the godfathers of personal computing as it relates to the masses and they sat down to do a joint interview at the D5: All Things Digital annual executive conference, sponsored by the Wall Street Journal’s premiere gadget gurus Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.

From the D5 website:

The Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital is unlike any other executive conference. Since its debut in 2003, D has brought to life the energy and excitement of the digital revolution in an unscripted, upfront and unparalleled way.

At the heart of D, the Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher ask smart, tough questions in a no-holds-barred fashion. The results are critical insights and relevant advice that stay with you well after the conference ends.

I gotta say - I watched Mossberg’s interview with a solo Jobs and he definitely does not beat around the bush. He asked a few tough questions, which is a refreshing context to see Jobs cope with in contrast to his absurdly well-rehearsed keynote speeches at Apple events.

Along with that interview, there are tons of other tidbits and interviews on the website for those interested in hearing Tech-industry heavyweights talk candidly about the future of their respective businesses and technology in general.

Here is the written transcript of the Jobs/Gates interview from the D5 website itself.

Here is Gizmodo’s coverage of the same event.

More to come…

Stumble it!

  1. Their body language is very interesting in this photo. Gates looks like he’s on the defense a little with the way he’s leaning.

  2. From reading all of the recaps of the exchange, it sounds like most of it was very amicable and respectful. I think there were a few digs that were definitely not made 100% in jest, but for the most part, I think these guys recognize each others’ brilliance and admire what they have accomplished in parallel.
